We were delighted to welcome author Julia Wills this week to the classics centre at Cheney, where she delivered a creative writing workshop for eager young writers from Years 5 and 6 from a range of local primary schools. Julia has written two novels, Fleeced and Rampage, which explore classical myths from new angles and in modern settings. In Fleeced, Aries remains furious at the loss of his beautiful golden fleece - stolen by Jason and the Argonauts centuries ago. Desperate to find his beloved fleece, Aries and his best friend Alex, the Underworld zookeeper soon discover the Golden Fleece is in the clutches of evil immortal sorceress Medea - now a world-famous fashion designer!
In her workshop, Julia talked in detail about her writing, read extracts from her books, and the pupils all got to have a go at writing bits of their own stories. She then signed books and answered a number of questions, such as how many times she had rewritten Fleeced before it was published (five times), and how she became a writer.
We are very grateful to her for visiting and inspiring a new generation of writers!
