This Friday, we are delighted to announce that we will be starting a stone carving project for Design & Technology pupils from Cheney School.

Working with acclaimed sundial expert David Brown, the students will learn how to create the Roman-style sundials from a lump of lime-stone, and carve the details and decorations. Through this, they will learn stone carving techniques as well as all about Roman sundials, how they were made and how they functioned.

The sessions will run for five weeks, and at the end pupils will be able to take home their sundials to keep in their gardens.
The project will be an exciting opportunity to explore a Roman craft and learn about an important aspect of Roman life. We will be updating our blog regularly with photos and descriptions of the work in progress so keep an eye out for more!
